MU PHI EPSILON

 

MUSICOLOGICAL RESEARCH CONTEST

Open to All Affiliated Members of Mu Phi Epsilon

 

The Musicological Research Contest was established by Mu Phi Epsilon to promote interest and growth among its members in music research.

 

1.                  All contestants must be currently affiliated members of Mu Phi Epsilon (annual international dues paid).  Applicant shall give name, address, chapter of initiation and present affiliation.

 

2.                  Material shall be of a research nature and shall exhibit creative ability.  Participant shall not submit the same thesis or paper in more than one contest, but may submit a revision or further development of a subject already presented.

 

3.                  Bibliography must be adequate with sources properly cited and proper footnote technique.  Text shall be typewritten or computer generated, double-spaced, and on quality bond paper.  Photocopies are acceptable.

 

4.                  Entries must be postmarked by March 1, 2008, and received by David Champion, International 4th Vice President, Music Adviser, 229 15th St, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266-4603.  The entrant must include a $25 entry fee check made to Mu Phi Epsilon and a self-addressed, stamped large envelope for the return of manuscripts.

 

5.                  Mu Phi Epsilon will pay the expenses of insuring and mailing the papers to the judges.

 

6.                  The award categories are:

 

I.                     $400    Ph.D. Dissertations in Musicology, Historical Musicology, Ethnomusicology, or Music History.

II.                   $350    Dissertations in other doctorates (D.M.A., Ed.D., etc.) or M.M. or M.A. theses in Musicology, Historical Musicology, Ethnomusicology, or Music History.

III.                  $250    Other graduate theses, graduate papers, or independent research papers.

IV.                $200    Undergraduate research papers, independent projects, or term papers.

 

Note: Dissertations and theses must not be more than five years old.  An award may be withheld if, in the opinion of the judges, there is no entry of sufficient merit in that category.

 

7.                  Abstracts, excerpts or summaries of the winning entries may be published in The Triangle of Mu Phi Epsilon.

 

8.         Due care will be used in protecting all papers and theses, but each applicant specifically releases all persons, including the International Executive Board of Mu Phi Epsilon and the judges, from any and all claims of damages arising out of the loss or destruction of submitted entries, however caused.
