Mu Phi Epsilon is an International Professional Music Fraternity composed of Collegiate Chapters, Alumni Chapters, and Allied Members. It was founded on November 13, 1903, at the Metropolitan College of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio, by Dr. Winthrop S. Sterling, Dean, and faculty member Elizabeth Mathias (later Mrs. John Fuqua). There are currently 139 chartered collegiate chapters, 90 of which are active, and 61 active alumni chapters.
Palo Alto Alumni Chapter of California was installed on September 26, 1955, by Rosalie Speciale, National Vice President. Our area encompasses the Peninsula from San Mateo in the north to San Jose in the South Bay. The chapter has presented in concert an International Competition Winner each triennium since 1970. We give an Annual Sherman Scholarship to a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, and three Biennial Performance Scholarships open to college students in the Bay Area. We are pleased to be Quadruple Benefactors of the Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation.
